SSL Console Processing For Your DAW

Duende. “A mysterious power which everyone senses and no philosopher explains.” 1.

You already know the sound of an SSL console – you’ve heard it on countless hit records from the last four decades. Now those superior mix characteristics are available within your digital audio workstation, seamlessly integrated as powerful plug-ins served up on a custom DSP platform.

Based on the digital technology behind SSL’s C-Series consoles, Duende delivers the complete SSL mix experience – powerful channel and dynamics processing and the legendary Stereo Bus Compressor. The easiest way to get professional mixes that sound like a record.

Duende offers complete integration into the most popular workstation environments with one simple FireWire cable connection. The processing blocks appear as VST/AU plug-ins (RTAS support via FXPansion wrapper) - including an authentic SSL channel strip with filters, E and G series EQ and dynamics processing, as well as the legendary SSL Stereo Bus Compressor.

Duende - Mix your music on an SSL.

F.Y.I

Neve are issuing a bunch of new outboard gear modelled on the stuff we all know and love.

I think October is the launch date but keep yourself posted @ www.neve.eu

8801 Producer Pack

The sound of the legendary 88R console in a rack. The 8801 offers a classic Neve mic pre and the distinctive Neve EQ coupled with the incredible 88R style dynamics processor. The truly ground breaking Producer Pack delivers a front end with the quality and versatility to capture and enhance any performance that requires the distinctive Neve sound. The Neve mic pre is followed by hi pass and low pass filters, four bands of EQ, compressor, gate, dynamics side chain and insert point. The order of these facilities may be changed as the producer requires. The filter section and/or the EQ section can be routed to the dynamics side chain to tailor the dynamics response on any input signal. An optional analogue to digital converter includes all standard sample rates to 192kHz and direct to DSD conversion. Neve Recall s/w can run on a PC or a Mac. This is an essential tool for creative flexibility, analogue outboard can now be used alongside workstations and their settings recalled whenever required. All the flexibility of a computer based system with the power and sound of genuine Neve technology.

8802 Dual Dynamics Unit

A highly flexible Dual Channel unit, the 8802 is a fully featured compressor, limiter and gate with that legendary Neve sound. 8802 is based on the dynamic section design of the Neve 88RS - regarded by most professionals as the finest sounding console ever made.
Each section on each channel can be independently switched in and out of circuit. A side chain insert point enables pre-processing of the control signal to ensure the exact response required with any input signal. The Neve 8802 can control any sound thrown at it to ensure a successful recording, or be used creatively to add warmth and depth to sound in a variety of applications. One feature the 8802 has in common with all the 88 hundred series is Recall. A USB port connects the unit to a Mac or PC, and a utility programme is provided to store and recall settings. With this essential tool for creative flexibility, analogue outboard can be used alongside workstations and their settings recalled whenever required.

You really should have one of these! Note. The 2 channel version is unbalanced jack and the 4 channel is balanced XLR. It costs a little bit more but you can never have enough channels of this (Well actually...four of them is pretty good!) so worth the extra dosh.

And finally.....

Dublin-based sound engineer wins top-of-the-range A-D/D-A converter
Congratulations to Kieran Lynch, the winner of the Prism Sound competition from SOS May 2006. Last week, the good people at Prism Sound flew Kieran from his home in Dublin to their headquarters in Cambridge to configure his prize, the ADA8XR multi-channel A-D/D-A converter. They also gave him a tour of their state-of-the-art facilities and took him out to dinner in one of the more swankier restaurants in the greater Cambridge area, before booking him into the Crowne Plaza hotel for the night.

Included in the prize, along with a meet and greet session, were two option cards. Kieran opted for a Pro Tools Mix card, to work with his current setup, and a Pro Tools HD card, which will allow him to continue using the ADA8XR when he upgrades to an HD system in the future.

Kieran, who runs Smalltone Productions, is a freelance sound engineer who has worked with the likes of U2 and REM. His most recent projects include The Beautiful South's latest album and The Frank and Walters' forthcoming CD. He plans to use the Prism converters on future projects with Vesta Varro and StarLittleThing.
