Decisions, decisions !
No I haven't lost interest in case you thought I had. The lack of posts is due to being in studio working on an album, a classical one at that!! So for the last two weeks, I've been recording quartets, brass sections, drums, harps etc. and did I use any of my recent Neve builds.......Yes I did :)
The 1272s have worked nicely on snare and the 3415, has been EXCELLENT for pretty much everything, especially Kick or Vox.
I must admit, I've been looking around at used Neves with the thought that it may be wiser (And cheaper!) to buy a re-capped board, rather than spending a chunk of cash restoring my baby, and then having to spend another chunk of cash bringing it up to spec for use in my studio!
The more I've learnt, the more I'm realising that what I'm attempting is a very expensive project, and at the end of the day, will probably cost me more than it will to buy a used studio console. Remember the frame I have is a broadcast console and will require quite a few mods to make it studio friendly.
Either way, its time I got serious about my front end having spent the last few years building up some tasty outboard. I'm getting good work these days too so it could be good for business (Only three of four Neves exist in Ireland these days and most of them are Vrs so it would be nice to add something pre 80s to the list ;).
Sadly, my Soundcraft 3200 is really on its last legs. All the switches need to be changed, its starting to get a bit noisey on the output but at the same time, its a great BIG desk (I'd say little but it must be 10 foot in length!) and has served me very well. I'd even seriously consider spending the cash on the work that needs to be done!
But for the moment, its back to the grindstone to come up with the funds $$$ to replace, repair or restore project Neve !
